The US National Weather Service has asked Computer Sciences Corp, El Segundo, California to develop and demonstrate a prototype replacement for its existing automated weather forecasting system, in a play-off with a consortium led by Planning Research Corp for the $300m 12-year contract: IBM, GE Americom, Online Computer Systems Inc and the Universities of Wisconsin and Arizona are on the Computer Sciences team.
