Computer People Group Plc, the US and UK computer consultant and recruitment company, has reported a pre-tax loss of UKP135,000 on turnover down to UKP29.9m from UKP348m. For the six months to June 30, operating profit declined to UKP5,000 from UKP762,000, although UKP493,000 of operating costs have been eliminated. The company says that it saw a further decline in its UK recruitment business while there has been no increase in the number of US consultants on assignment since January. Conversely, the number of consultants in the UK rose sharply in the second quarter and the trend has continued into the third. Despite a competitive marketplace and the eternally depressed economy, Computer People forecasts a return to profitability in the near future.
