Kodak Professional, a division of Eastman Kodak Co, has won some heavyweight computer manufacturers as licensees for its Kodak Digital Science CMS color management system. Compaq Computer Corp, Hewlett Packard Co, IBM Corp, Microtek International, Panasonic Computer Peripheral Co and Sun Microsystems Inc have all signed up for the system, which aims to keep color reproduction accurate from input to monitor display to output, and enables monitors to be used for previewing color output accurately. Sun says it will incorporate CMS technology into its Java 2D applications programming interface, so the color verification will be available to all Java-enabled platforms. Compaq, HP, IBM and Panasonic will all use the technology to make International Color Consortium ICC profiles for their display devices. And desktop scanner manufacturer Microtek will add ICC color management capabilities to its scanner drivers and software. Kodak says the new design wins are the latest in a series. It’s already won Adobe Systems Inc, Corel Corp, Quark Inc, Macromedia Inc and Apple Computer Corp as licensees of the software.
