The one truly hot property at Computer Associates International Inc seems to be its Unicenter Unix systems management software, and the product has won a further endorsement from Hewlett-Packard Co with the announcement of Unicenter for OpenView, which is to be marketed by both companies. The product combines the HP OpenView network management system with Unicenter: Computer Associates licensed components of OpenView Solution Framework, including HP OpenView OperationsCenter and HP OpenView SNMP Platform, and integrated them with Unicenter to create the new product, which has the Ingres relational database at its heart. It is designed for managing IBM Corp mainframes; HP 9000, HP 3000, IBM RS/6000 and AS/400, Sun Microsystems Inc, AT&T Global Information Solutions and Data General Corp workstations and servers; and NetWare, Windows and Windows NT personal computers. Hewlett-Packard and Computer Associates say they will continue to provide and enhance their own offerings, and will also work with other partners to provide a complete range of management products. Unicenter for OpenView can be ordered now and starts at $50,000.
