Computer Associates International Inc has wasted no time in making deep cuts at Cullinet Software Inc following completion of its acquisition of the Westwood, Massachusetts company. On Friday it made unspecified layoffs believed to total as many as 900 jobs; Cullinet’s total workforce stood at 1,810 at the end of its fiscal year on April 30. The Garden City, New York software giant is expected to have to take $30m charges for the cuts. Three Cullinet managers who were laid off last week told tze Wall Street Journal said the unexpectedly deep cuts were likely to disrupt customer service and derail product development. They said many seminar instructors for an annual user week meeting set for next week in Atlanta had been among those fired, as were about half the company’s applications development people.
