Computer Associates Ltd has announced several database enhancements, including CA-IDMS release 12, CA-Datacom release 8.0 and new releases for the VAX/VMS environment. CA-IDMS release 12 is compatible with existing IDMS databases and it also has MVS/ESA capabilities, processing enhancements and security interfaces into CA-ACF2, CA-Top Secret and Resource Access Control Facility. CA-IDMS/Transparency for DB2 enables data to reside in the CA-IDMS database while application code written with DB2 SQL can function unchanged. Computer Associates says that the implementation of CA-IDMS on the personal computer enhances support of co-operative processing and implements extended memory capabilities which enable mainframe applications to be down-sized to personal computer and local area network environments. The company also announced that CA-IDMS for the DEC VAX will allow for the integration of IDMS/DB navigational techniques with SQL access currently supported within the CA-DB/VAX database. The latest release of CA-Datacom facilitates both SQL and non-relational access to a single source of data. In addition to SQL, CA-Datacom 8.0 has MVS/XA and MVS/ESA facilities and standard security features. There are a number of Datacom products for the personal computer, and Computer Associates is planning a VAX/VMS beta implementation in the fourth quarter of 1991.
