Japan’s love affair with computer-assisted translation is going to have to be curbed if language is to continue to be useful into the twenty-first century: the Daily Telegraph’s Peterborough column reports that on his recent trip to Tokyo, the title of Permanent Secretary to the Cabinet Sir Robert Armstrong, was rendered in the Japanese press The Government’s Immortal Typist.
