Hatfield, UK-based Computacenter said it had performed well in the first six months of 2003 despite the current market, and was boosted by its IT services operations, which offset low demand within its core IT reselling activities.
At the same time, the company said it had won a 70m pound ($116.2m) five-year desktop outsourcing contract with UK-based bank Abbey National, through which it will replace a number of separate suppliers. The deal adds to a multimillion-dollar outsourcing contract it signed last week with HBOS to manage some 40,000 desktops, replacing existing suppliers IBM and Getronics.
The company also said it is pleased with the integration of its acquisition of the 1.24bn euros ($1.92bn) making German reselling firm GE Compunet, which it bought from GE Capital IT Solutions for 121m pounds ($187.5m) last November.
Despite the anticipated strong results for the first half, the company is less optimistic about the prospects for the remainder of the year. After a modest pick-up in the market in the first quarter, trading has fallen back to more subdued levels. We anticipate little change to these conditions for the remainder of the year, it said.
