Compuserve, the H & R Block-owned bulletin board and information service believed to be the largest in the world with 500,000 subscribers, acknowledges that it has been in talks to acquire rival The Source, of McLean, Virginia, which has a subscriber base of about 60,000. The Source is owned by investment firm of Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe, and is therefore almost certainly available at a good price.
