According to the company, other improvements in version 3.0 include returns management tools, additional financial reports templates, and stability and usability enhancements.

The company also provides a free Community Edition and a Standard Edition. These two editions do not include the new web interface, which was built with Google’s Web Toolkit.

The Professional edition of the platform uses Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and open source Google Web Toolkit technologies and does not require installation and configuration of client software on user desktops.

Reshaping the ERP user experience with a powerful Web interface is the newest way Compiere is making ERP easier and more cost effective for companies in the mid-market, said Don Klaiss, president and chief executive at Compiere. The new Web architecture, in combination with Compiere’s proven model-driven application platform, provides a dynamic offering to enable businesses to customize their ERP solution quickly, easily and affordably.

According to the company, the version 3.0 built on Rich Internet Applications (RIA) technology will be priced at $25 per user per month for both the standard and professional editions.

Compiere claims all its releases are regression tested and supported. It also said that service packs for its applications are released in every one or two months and major updates are shipped once or twice each year.

Recently, another open source ERP vendor XTuple announced that it has certified its OpenMFG ERP suite and its PostBooks accounting software to run on Mac OS X Leopard.
