Five companies in the quarter-inch cartridge tape industry plan to develop compatible new drive and minicartridge products that will more than double existing minicartridge capacity using new 3.5 Travan technology: the five are Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing Co, Sony Corp’s Sony Recording Media, Hewlett-Packard Co’s Colorado Memory Systems Division, Conner Peripherals Inc and Iomega Corp; the native storage capacity of the new Travan modified QIC-80 drive and cartridge is expected to be 400Mb and of the new modified 3010 one is expected to be 800Mb; and a modified 3020 drive and cartridge is expected to store 1.6Gb of data.
