Comparex Informationssysteme GmbH and National Advanced Systems have announced Hitachi Ltd’s answer to the IBM 3990-3 disk controller, Comparex as the 6090-3, National as the 7980-3. The thing comes with 32Mb to 512Mb of cache and supports channel rates of 3Mb-per-second and 4.5Mb-per-second, or 6Mbytes-per-second when used with Hitachi IBMulators. It supports up to eight simultaneous channel paths and up to four simultaneous data transfer paths, and there is a 4Mb or 8Mb non-volatile storage with battery back-up option. The thing will ship at the end of first quarter 1990 with dates for IBM’s Fast Write and Dual Copy features to be announced after IBM ships those features for the 3990-3: IBM plans to ship in March 1990.
