COMPAREX LAUNCHES HITACHI RAID SYSTEM IN EUROPE

By CBR Staff Writer

Hitachi Ltd’s central European distributor, Comparex Informationssysteme GmbH, has unveiled the OpenLine D1200 RAID subsystem for Unix and Windows NT servers. The subsystem, which is the equivalent to Hitachi Data Systems’ 5700E, announced last month, is available in four configurations, housing five to 20 disks plus one hot spare. Each 3.5 disk holds 4.1Gb or 8.7Gb, offering storage up to 178Gb, with up to 512Mb cache storage per single subsystem. Throughput has been doubled over the existing OpenLine D1000 models, Comparex says. The D1200 supports dual Ultra-SCSI buses, yielding transfer rates of up to 80Mb per second, and there will be a fiber channel upgrade available in the fourth quarter for transfer rates approaching 100Mb per second.
