Facing up to its precarious position as a remarketer of IBM-compatible mainframes in direct competition with a company owned by the maker of those mainframes, Comparex Informationssysteme GmbH has diversified into the Sperry end of the Unisys Corp market in Europe by signing to bring in the U9200 storage subsystem for Unisys 2200 and 1100 mainframes from long-time Sperry storage systems specialist Amperif Corp, Chatsworth, California. The device attaches to block multiplexer and word channels on the mainframes, and enables up to 2.3Gb of semiconductor storage and up to 32Gb of disk to be included in one string, with up to 36Mb of mirrored image cache optional. Each cache has its own power supply, battery back-up and storage control to give at least 24 hours of data protection after a power failure. The U9200 sub system is available now; no prices.
