COMPAQ UNVEILS LAST WORD IN FAST LUGGABLES

Compaq Computer Corp picked a lousy day for launch of its 20 lbs Portable III, which uses a 12MHz 80286+8MHz 80287 to drive a gas plasma display, and uses 29nS access 20Mb or 40Mb 3.5 Winchesters from Conner Peripherals, where Compaq is an investor. It has 640Kb to 6.6Mb memory and costs UKP3,295 with 1.2Mb 5.25 floppy; UKP3,950 with 20Mb disk and UKP4,395 with 40Mb disk. First UK deliveries are due to start this month.
