COMPAQ TRIMS $200 OFF ITS 80386SX-BASED DESKPRO MODELS

By CBR Staff Writer

In a move that no doubt is intended to anticipate a similar machine from IBM shortly, Compaq Computer Corp has cut US suggested prices for the 80386SX-based Deskpro 386s line by $200 per model, so the Model 1 is $3,600, the 20Mb disk Model 20 is $4,300, the 40Mb Model 40 $5,000. The company is also cutting prices because it says it is no longer backlogged on the boxes and wants them to be seen as an affordable, yet superior performance alternative to 80286 boxes such as IBM’s PS/2 Model 50Z.
