Compaq Computer Corp now claims the number one spot in notebook computers in the US and the number two spot worldwide for the first quarter, according to figures from International Data Corp. The IDC research confirms that Compaq has finally toppled Toshiba Corp from the top spot in the US, something it has been threatening to do for about a year (CI No 3,184). Sales for the company’s Armada and Presario portables captured a 17% market share in the US and 12% worldwide, according to IDC.
