Compaq Computer Corp is trying to step up its presence in the Asia-Pacific region and has established the Greater China Region, which will be headed by former chairman and chief executive of Nortel (China) Ltd, Philip Yu, who has been appointed president. The region will cover China, Hong Kong and Taiwan and Yu will be based in Beijing. Responsibility for the company’s former Aisa-Pacific headquarters is likely to be somewhat diminished.
