Previewing the new Deskpro 386/33 models – see today’s front page – Compaq Computers Ltd chief Joe McNally – now a corporate vice president – claimed that in 1988, the company had shipped 40% of all 80386-based personal computers sold through UK computer dealers, and more 386-based machines than any other single manufacturer; he also said that Compaq Ltd’s Erskine manufacturing plant in Scotland now supplies 60% of the company’s requirements ouside North America.
