COMPAQ PREDICTS SLOW GERMAN SALES

By CBR Staff Writer

It will be a tough year in the consumer sector in Germany, Compaq Computer GmbH salesman Karl Tucholski said over the stereophonic surround-sound emanating from one of his firm’s Presario MMX systems at the launch in Munich. International Data Corp’s Simon Pearce in London echoed that to Reuters, saying Consumer confidence is not there for people to go out and spend money on a new computer – and we’re starting to get worried that a lower estimate might have to be brought forward to 1997 – we’re not looking for the next upgrade cycle to really kick in until late 1998.
