Compaq Computer Corp plans to buy another 85 acres alongside its present 149 acre site in northwest Harris County, on the outskirts of Houston in Texas, and projects that expansion planned on the new site will accommodate up to 4,000 more employees: the new facilities will include 1.4m square feet of office space, featuring top-floor skylights, lobby-level atriums and glass-enclosed walkways, glass lifts with views of the atrium, and a materials-handling corridor to link with the manufacturing buildings; exceptional efforts will be made to preserve existing trees and to maintain the natural beauty of the environment – quite right too.
