Despite recent setbacks with NT-on-Alpha chips, Compaq Computer Corp appears determined to maintain its speed lead with future high-end server silicon. According to Microprocessor Watch, the EV8, which is not due in systems till 2003, will run at 1.7GHz. The EV7, which should arrive by the middle of next year, will debut at 1GHz.
