Microsoft Corp reports that Compaq Computer Corp has become the ninth vendor to demonstrate symmetric multiprocessing using the forthcoming Windows NT operating system version 3.1, running it on the SystemPro/XL: Microsoft says the nine are demonstrating NT running symmetrically on two, three, four, six, eight and 16 processors; the other eight are Acer Group, Advanced Logic Research Inc, AST Research Inc, Ing C Olivetti & Co SpA, Wyse Technology Inc, Tricord Systems Inc, NCR Corp and Sequent Computer Systems Inc; stressing the thing’s scalability, the systems range in price from $8,000 to $1m.
