Compaq Computer Corp has updated its Presario line of personal computers with five new form factors and around 20 machines in all. The company has split the computers into the areas of mobile computing, family, home office, multimedia enthusiast and design-conscious – the latter having such attention to detail as a cordless mouse and what Compaq claims is the consumer market’s first 12.1-inch double bright thin-film transistor screen. In addition, Compaq has signed a deal with Sega Entertainment Inc to deliver PowerVR versions of Sega’s arcade games, now that Compaq has the PowerVR three-dimensional processors it licensed from VideoLogic Group Plc in the UK. The multimedia machines also have JBL loudspeakers that Compaq got from Harman International Industries Inc. Most of the range is equipped with videophone software.(CI No 2,910). Prices range from $1,700 to $4,000 and are available now in the US and later this year elsewhere.
