Still in his 30s, Compaq Computer Corp veteran Mike Swavely, after eight years with the firm, most recently as president, North America, is to make his current six-month sabbatical permanent and retire; he says he intends remaining active in the industry, but he does not anticipate taking a full-time operational role in the forseeable future.
