Compaq Computer Corp has taken a small stake in software development tools company Dynasty Technologies Inc, industry sources are saying. The stake comes from the relationship both Dynasty and Compaq’s Tandem Computers Inc division have with Provo, Utah- based ViewSoft Inc, the company with a development tool that can produce Java interfaces that resemble Windows, Macintosh, or even green screen terminals, combined with fully-functioning C++ Windows applications residing on the server (CI No 3,355). Dynasty licensed the ViewSoft product in February to improve its graphical development support, and at the same time Tandem – already a Dynasty user – also signed an OEM deal for the product to use with its Tektonic object request broker work in Germany (CI No 3,355). Both Tandem and Dynasty took a small equity position in ViewSoft as part of the deals. Now Dynasty has apparently taken over Tandem’s share of ViewSoft, and in return Compaq has a small share in the company.
