Commenting on some very sound figures (see page five) Compaq Computer Corp says it shipped a record number of personal computers in the third quarter but entered the fourth quarter with a sizable backlog, which it expects to eliminate this quarter; it says it shipped 200,000 personal computers in September alone, and it plans to begin meeting current demand on most products this quarter; Despite our continuing market gains, Compaq is fully aware of fiercely competitive markets that lie ahead and we are committed to take decisive and timely actions necessary to ensure continued success, chief executive Eckhard Pfeiffer said.
