COMPAQ EDGES TOWARDS DIRECT MARKETING

By CBR Staff Writer

Inching its way towards a more direct sales model, Compaq Computer Corp has agreed with Torrance, California-based PC direct marketer Creative Computers Inc that it can source products directly from Compaq. Creative targets small and medium- sized businesses through catalogues, telemarketing, internet marketing and its four retail showrooms. Once a Macintosh specialist, Creative began selling Wintel PCs in May 1995, and sold $100m worth in 1996, out of its total sales of $445m.
