COMPAQ CUTS NOTEBOOK TAGS

By CBR Staff Writer

Personal computer dealers and distributors are already complaining that rampant price cutting by the likes of Compaq Computer Corp and IBM Corp is making it impossible to make a profit, but Compaq is having to cut again, in what until recently has been the one buoyant sector of the market, notebook computers. It is cutting tags on the LTE and LTE/286 notebooks by up to 22% with the LTE/286 M20 off 22% at $1,950, the LTE/286 M40 off 20% to $2,250, the LTE M20 down 12.5% at $1,750.
