Compaq Computer Corp has extended the Japanese price war to notebook computers, offering two new top-line Pentium notebook models at prices that 30% to 40% lower than current models. The $6,000 LTE 5300 has 133MHz Pentium and the $4,700 LTE 5280 with a 120MHz Pentium. The LTE 5300 also has a 12.1 thin-film transistor display panel. Shipments of both models begin in early May.
