Compaq Computer Corp is the latest catch for Ireland’s Industrial Development Authority: Compaq is to locate a major pan-European Customer Care Center in Dublin and create more than 550 new jobs within three years. The center is intended to provide a streamlined level of service through the latest telecommunications technology across European markets. It is expected to handle up to 4.5 million calls per year and will operate 24 hours a day, seven days week. The tele-services sector has created some 3,500 jobs over the last four years; the government target is 5,000 jobs created by 2000.
