COMPAQ COMPUTER SAYS SALES OF DESKPRO 386 AND PORTABLE III RESPONSIBLE FOR HIGH FIGURES

By CBR Staff Writer

Commenting on its soaraway second quarter figures – net up 219% at $30.7m on sales up 82% at $268m (see page five), Compaq Computer Corp makes it clear that the real winners in its product line are the 12MHz Deskpro 286 and the Portable III – which saw steep increases in sales each month; sales of the Deskpro 386 on the other hand only remain strong: the figures are substantially better even than the company’s own bullish forecast late last month of profits of at least $25.5m on sales of at least $250m.
