Compaq Computer Corp is claiming the number one spot in units shipped of Windows NT workstations, overtaking Hewlett-Packard Co less than one year after entering the market with its Professional Workstation 5000 in October 1996. Compaq cites Dataquest Inc figures showing it was in the lead for the third quarter of 1997, and International Data Corp putting it at number one for the whole year.
