COMPAQ CLAIMS ITS NETPC IS MOST COST EFFICIENT ON THE MARKET

By CBR Staff Writer

Compaq Computer Corp says its DeskPro 4000N NetPC can reduce the total cost of ownership of a personal computer by up to 35%. Quoting a research report issued by Gartner Group Inc, Compaq says that calculations covering five cost points – desktop capital, network costs, technical support, administration and end-user operations – showed the NetPC running Microsoft Corp’s Zero Administration Kit for Windows in TaskStation mode recorded an annual total cost of ownership of $6,469, compared to the Network Computer ($6,547), Windows Terminal ($7,792) and typical Windows 95 system ($9,869). Compaq says it will be supporting the Desktop Management Task Force DMI 2.0 and Intel Corp’s Wired for Management specifications on all of its new Compaq Deskpro systems.
