After 18 months of uphill struggle, Compaq Computer Corp has decided to throw in the towel on its laser printer business: it will end printer development immediately and exit the market in the first half of 1994. The company said that while printers generated market share, the segment was quite small and does not provide a sufficient return to cover our current level of investment. It said the move should not affect current estimates of performance for the rest of 1993, but should benefit 1994 operating results by freeing investment resources for other areas. There was no word on how many jobs will be affected.
