COMPAQ BOUNCES BUSINESSLAND

By CBR Staff Writer

Businessland Inc quietly announced a policy a week or so back to push IBM’s Micro Channel Architecture machines, but the move seems to have misfired badly as Compaq Computer Corp notified the San Jose retailer that it intends to terminate its dealer agreement effective in 60 days on April 21. Businessland says that for the year to June 1988 and the half to December 1988, sales of Compaq products accounted for a steady 15% of its net sales – and made up 7% of Compaq’s sales. Compaq says that it decided that continuing our relationship with the firm is not in the best interest of Compaq or our customers.
