Compaq Computer Corp on Monday announced a new look for its Deskpro PCs and the extension of its build-to-order program announced in July (CI No 3,201) across all product lines. Compaq launched its new Deskpro 2000, 4000 and 6000 models, as well as a small form desktop PC for space-constrained environments – the 4000s. The new Deskpros incorporate Net PC technologies which make the machines manageable – including remote wake and installation of software – from a single network point. They feature Pentium II processors and Intel’s 440AGPset for advanced graphics capabilities. The new models come pre-installed with Windows NT Workstation 4.0 and start at $1,739 for the 2000 line, $1,849 for the 4000 line and $2,399 for the 6000 line.
