COMPAQ AND US COM COMPANY IN TAIWANESE OEM DEALS

By CBR Staff Writer

Two Taiwan-based computer manufacturers, First International Computer Inc (FIC) and Bcom Electronics Inc, have each won separate initial OEM contracts to build palmtop computers for two US companies: Compaq Computer Corp and an unnamed US communications company. According to Asian media sources, Bcom will deliver 25,000 units by the end of the year and continue monthly deliveries estimated at 20,000 units throughout 1999. Compaq and FIC have yet to sign, but provided the deal goes through FIC will deliver 20,000 units per month starting in February 1999.
