Fed up with slow progress on battery technology, Compaq Computer Corp is rolling up its sleeves and lending Duracell Inc a hand on development of standard-sized nickel metal hydride rechargeable batteries for portable computers: the new battery will be available in early 1994 and will provide up to 40% longer life than a comparable nickel cadmium battery, they said.
