Compaq Computer Corp, Houston has come out with a new version of its SystemPro server and cut prices on its existing SystemPros by up to 21%. The company also introduced a Compaq Insight, describing it as a new server technology strategy offering a comprehensive management and maintenance system for servers. Compaq says that the new 33MHz 80486-based SystemPro delivers up to 70% better server performance at up to $5,000 less than current SystemPro models – the new models are from $12,800 to $23,000. The company also signed to resell Novell Inc’s NetWare Version 3.11 network operating system on the servers, intgrating the Insight manager with it. It will be available in July at between $1,100 for five users and $12,500 for 250 users. Compaq will offer a separate Netware 3.11 at from $1,300 to $15,000, the higher price adding benefits such as free upgrade to the next release of NetWare. Insight manager is priced at $700 including one pack of Compaq management agents. Additional management agents will cost $200 per server. The new models are out now.
