Compaq Computer Corp yesterday duly launched a new colour notebook personal computer costing $2,800 and the two 80486 models expected in its Prolinea budget desktop line. The company also announced enhancements to the Prolinea line, including new security features, expansion to as much as 32Mb main memory in 80486 models and a 240Mb disk for all Prolineas. A 33MHz 80486 model with 240Mb disk costs $2,100. The completely new models are the 4/50 with the 50MHz 80486 DX2 with 4Mb and a 120Mb disk for $2,250 and the 4/25s, based on the 25MHz 80486SX at $1,550 with 240Mb. They are offered with the option of pre-installed MS-DOS 5.0, Windows 3.1 and a Compaq mouse. The new Contura 3/25c features a 9 passive matrix colour display panel and is based on a 25MHz 80386SL microprocessor. It weighs 6.7 lbs and is claimed to be the fastest Windows machine in its class. It costs $2,800 with an 84Mb disk and $3,100 with 120Mb; it comes with Windows 3.1 and MS-DOS 5.0 pre-installed and 4Mb RAM expandable to 12Mb.
