COMPANY-WIDE REVIEW AT PHILIPS

Philips NV, under its new president Cor van der Klugt, has initiated a company-wide review likely to lead to divestiture of poorly performing subsidiaries: the company has been on the stomp for a major US computer acquisition for three or four years now, but if it doesn’t find one soon, several of the existing computer businesses, which have turned in dismal performances year after year, could well become prime candidates for divestiture.
