COMPANY RESULTS

Varian Associates Inc saw second quarter net up 96.7% at $18.3m on turnover up 21.3% at $394.5m; mid-term net rose 88.7% to $30m on sales up 16.5% at $718.3m. Net per share, adjusted for a two-for-one stock split paid in March, rose 104% to $0.51 in the quarter, and up 95.3% to $0.84 in the half.
