AirTouch Communications Inc has reported third quarter net profits up 35.8% at $46.7m, on turnover up 28.1% at $407.2m; nine month net profits rose 27.1% to $120.7m, on turnover up 30.8% at $1,169.5m. Net per share rose 28.6% to $0.09 in the quarter, 26.3% to $0.24 in the three quarters.Applied Magnetics Corp has reported fourth quarter net of $9.4m against a loss last time of $20.5m on turnover up 43.2% at $92.4m; net profit for the year to September 30 was $1.7m against a loss last time of $52.7m on turnover up 6.0% to $292.6m.

Auspex Systems Inc has reported first quarter net profit up 70.8% at $3.5m, on turnover up 40.5% to $33.5m. Net earnings per share rose 56% to $0.14.

Borland International Inc has reported second quarter net profits up to $2.6m, up from $350,000 profits last time, which were after a $3.1m restructuring charge, on turnover that was down 36.9% at $51.3m; mid-term net profits fell to $5.4m, down from $61.7m profits last time, which were after the same charge as above, on turnover that was down 30.1% at $105.1m. Net earnings per share were up to $0.08 in the quarter, from $0.01 last time, and up to $0.18 in the half, from $1.84 last time.

Brooktree Corp has reported fourth quarter net profits up to $4.3m, against $718,000 profits last time, on turnover up 47.6% at $42.5m; net profits for the year to September 30 were up to $12.5m, from $2.0m last time, on turnover that rose 26.3% to $137.7m. Net earnings per share were up to $0.23 in the quarter, from $0.04 last time, and to $0.69 in the year, from $0.12 twelve months ago.

Frontier Corp has reported third quarter net losses of $137.9m, after a $195.1m charge for an accounting change, against $47.4m profits last time, on turnover that rose 35.6% at $571.4m; nine month net losses were $33.2m, against $133.3m profits last time, on turnover that was up 24.2% at $1,537.3m.

FTP Software Inc saw third quarter net up 15.5% at $4.8m that included an after-tax charge of about $2.34m on turnover up 54.6% at $4.8m; nine-month net rose 50.1% to $21.9m that included a charge of $700,000 taken in the first quarter for product development and process on turnover up 60.3% at $102.5m. Net per share was up 21.4% to $0.17 in the quarter, 51.0% to $0.77 in the nine months.

General DataComm Industries Inc has reported fourth quarter net losses of $5.2m against a profit the same period last year of $1.3m, on turnover that was down 2.8% at $58.3m; net losses for the year to September 30 were $27.6m against losses last time of $2.3m on turnover that was up 4.8% to $221.2m.

Network Express Inc has reported third quarter net profits up to $755,000, from $105,000 last time, on turnover that rose 113.4% at $6.2m; nine month net profits were up to $1.8m, from $207,000 last time, on turnover that was up 136.3% at $17.0m. Net earnings per share were up 250% to $0.07 in the quarter, 375% to $0.19 in the three quarters.

Nexgen Inc has reported first quarter net losses of $20.5m up from a loss last time of $5.3m, on turnover that was up from $7,000 to $16.6m this time.

Sequoia Systems Inc has reported first quarter net profits up 147.2% at $1.7m on turnover that rose 27.2% at $27.5m. Net per share rose 120% to $0.11.

Symantec Corp has reported second quarter net profits up 61.4% at $12.9m, on turnover that was up 30.1% at $102.8m; mid-term net profits rose 172.3% to $24.6m, on turnover that was up 19.0% at $193.0m. Net earnings per share rose 36.4% to $0.30 in the quarter, 14.7% to $0.58 in the half.

Tandem Corp has reported fourth quarter net profits down 72.1% at $19.8m, after a $620,000 gain on the sale of subsidiaries and investments, on turnover that was up 5.9% at $640.0m; net profits for the year to September 30 were down 36.8% at $107.5m, after a pre-tax gain of $9.3m from the sale of a unit, against a $23m pre-tax gain for the same purpose last time, on turnover that rose 7.4% to $1,846.1m. Net earnings per share fell 72.6% to $0.17 in the quarter, 39.3% to $0.91 in

the year.

Wang Laboratories Inc has reported a first quarter net loss of $19.9m after a charge of $27.2m on the Sigma Imaging acquisition, against profit last time of $2.8m, on turnover that rose 37.4% at $264.1m.

Western Digital Corp saw first quarter net profits down 76.0% at $8.3m, on turnover that rose 20.1% to $558.1m. Net per share was down 77.1% to $0.16.

Xerox Corp has reported third quarter net profits up 26.9% at $236.0m, on turnover up 7.0% at $4,600.0m; nine month net profits rose 28.6% to $621.0m, on turnover up 9.6% at $13,700.0m. Net earnings per share rose 26.1% to $1.93 in the quarter, 32.6% to $5.09 in the three quarters.

Mitel Corp has reported second quarter net profits up to the equivalant of $11.0m, from $2.1m profits last time, on turnover that was up 3.8% at $109.3m; mid-term net profits rose to $18.0m, after a $3.7m charge from the closure of European operations, up from $5.0m profits last time, on turnover that was up 3.9% to $208.9m. Net earnings per share rose to $0.10 in the quarter, from $0.01 last time, and to $0.16 in the half, up from $0.04 last time. Figures converted at $0.7312 to the Canadian dollar.

Baan NV has reported third quarter net profits up 44.6% at $3.1m, on turnover up 29.1% at $54.4m; nine month net profits were $8.4m, against $98,000 losses last time, on turnover up 74.0% at $140.7m. Net earnings per share fell 50% to $0.07 in the quarter, and were $0.19 in the three quarters. The Dutch company reports its figures in US dollars.

Philips Electronics NV has reported third quarter net profits up 18.5% to the equivalent of $346.8m, against a period including a $48.3m extraordinary gain, on turnover up 8.0% at $9,858.4m; nine month net profits rose 49.1% to $1,074.6m, after a $128.7m extraordinary gain against a $48.3m gain last time, on turnover that was up 5.8% at $28,693.7m. Net earnings per share rose 52.8% to $3.54 in the three quarters. No earnings per share figure was available for the quarter. The figures were converted at $0.6435 top the Dutch guilder.
