Data General Corp has reported a fourth quarter net profit $1.5m against a loss last time of $6.2m on turnover that rose 6.9% at $312.8m; net loss for the year to September 30 was $46.7m after a $43m charge for lay-offs and restructuring, offset by a pre-tax gain of $44.5m on settlement of a software copyright and trade secret lawsuit against Northrop Grumman Corp, down from a loss last time of $87.7m, which was after a restructuring charge of $35.0m, on turnover that rose 3.5% at $1,159.3m. Net earnings per share were $0.04 in the quarter.
Dun & Bradstreet Corp has reported third quarter net profits up 2.9% at $171.5m, after a pre-tax $90m gain from the sale of Interactive Data Corp, which was offset by restructuring expense of $13m and post-employment benefits expense of $77m, against a pre-tax $36m gain from asset sales and $39m of charges largely for revaluation of intangible assets. Quarterly and nine-months net were also affected by a pre-tax $26m gain from a change in eligibility requirements for a post-retirement medical plan. Turnover rose 10.8% at $1,333.4m; nine month net profits rose 1.5% to $426.5m, after a pre-tax $28m gain from the sale of warrants from divestiture of Donnelley Marketing in 1991, against a $56m pre-tax restructuring gain from the sale of businesses, offset by $56m of restructuring expenses, on turnover that was up 10.7% at $3,860.5m. Net earnings per share rose 3.1% to $1.01 in the quarter, 1.6% to $2.51 in the three quarters.

MCI Communications Corp has reported a third quarter net loss of $240.0m after an $831m restructuring charge, against profit last time of $220.0m, on turnover up 13.3% at $3,862m; nine month net fell 59.0% at $264.0m on turnover up 12.0% at $11,128m. Net per share fell 66% to $0.38 in the nine months.
