Checkmate Electronics Inc has reported third quarter net profits up to $758,000, from $71,000 profits last time, on turnover up 120.6% at $7.4m; nine month net profits rose 103.7% to $2.1m, on turnover up 91.0% at $2.1m. Net earnings per share rose to $0.14 in the quarter, from $0.02 last time, and were up 95% to $0.39 in the three quarters.

Dataware Technologies Inc has reported third quarter net profits up 75.6% at $820,000 on turnover up 17.8% at $10.2m; nine month net profits rose 281.9% to $1.9m on turnover up 30.0% at $29.5m. Net earnings per share rose 62.5% to $0.13 in the quarter, 275% to $0.30 in the three quarters.

Disc Inc has reported third quarter net losses of $559,000, down from $773,000 losses the same period last year, on turnover that rose 81.8% at $1.8m; nine month net losses of $1.8m, down from $2.4m losses last time, on turnover up 77.5% at $4.8m.

Dynatech Corp has reported second quarter net losses of $5.0m, against profits of $5.1m last time, on turnover down 6.1% at $114.0m; mid-term net losses were $368,000, against $8.7m profits last time, on turnover that was down 2.9% at $232.3m.

Edmark Corp has reported first quarter net profits of $241,639, against $154,058 losses the same period last year on turnover that was up 67.6% to $6.9m. Net earnings per share were $0.03.

Fore Systems Inc has reported second quarter net profits up 155.9% at $3.8m on turnover up 146.9% at $38.2m; mid-term net rose 118.5% to $5.4m on turnover up 156.4% at $69.9m. Net per share rose 160% to $0.13 in the quarter, 100% to $0.18 in the half.

Genus Inc has reported third quarter net profits up 108.6% at $2.4m, on turnover that was up 49.3% at $27.2m; nine month net profits rose 134.2% to $6.6m, on turnover that was up 59.3% at $74.8m. Net earnings per share rose 55.6% to $0.14 in the quarter, 90.0% to $0.42 in the three quarters.

MRV Communications Inc saw third quarter net profits up 187.3% at $1.2m on turnover up 135.4% at $11.1m; nine-month net losses were $2.8m against a profit of $1.0m last time, which included $5.6m from purchased technology and restructuring costs associated with two acquisitions in the second quarter, on turnover that was up 131.0% at $26.2m.

Quarterdeck Corp has reported fourth quarter net losses of $563,000, after acquisition, restructuring and other charges totalling $3.8m, down from $15.4m losses last time, which were after charges of $13.5m, on turnover up 142.3% at $20.3m; net profits for the year to September 30 were $4.1m, after $7.4m in exceptional charges, against losses of $18.9m last time, which were after exceptional charges of $13.5m, on turnover up 84.7% to $70.7m.

Smith Corona Corp has reported first quarter net losses of $5.4m, after a $1.5m pre-tax restructuring gain and a $3.2m pre-tax restructuring charge, against $1.2m profits the same period last year, on turnover that was down 44.3% to $33.5m.

3DO Co has reported second quarter net losses of $8.8m, down from $12.8m losses last time, on turnover that rose 42.0% at $7.1m; mid-term net losses were $16.7m, down from $28.9m losses the same period last year, on turnover up 43.7% at $14.3m.

CAE Inc has reported second quarter net profits up 21.4% to the equivalent of $9.8m, on turnover up 45.5% at $174.7m; mid-term net profits rose 21.7% to $19.1m, on turnover that was up 20.3% at $275.5m. Net earnings per share rose 20% to $0.09 in the quarter, and 20% to $0.18 in the half. Figures converted at $0.7398 to the Canadian dollar.

Elbit Ltd has reported third quarter net profits down 67.8% at $3.3m, on turnover up 39.8% at $238.5m; nine month net profits fell 47.6% to $14.3m, on turnover up 38.8% at $707.6m. Net earnings per share fell 72.7% to $0.15 in the quarter, and 54.4% to $0.67 in the three quarters. The Israeli company reports its figures in US dollars.

Logitech International SA saw net profits for the six months to September 30 the equivalent of $2.7m, against $27.8m losses last time, which were after a $21.1m restructuring charge, on turnover down 1.4% to $166.9m. No per share figures available. Figures were converted at $0.8807 to the Swiss franc.

Sony Corp has reported net profits for the six months to September 30 the equivalent of $154.9m, on turnover that rose 11.4% to $19,730.5m. No earnings per share figures were available. Figures were converted at $0.0096 to the Japanese yen.

Telefonica de Argentina SA has reported net profits for the year to September 30 up 8.9% to the equivalent of $457.8m, on turnover that rose 4.6% to $2,730m. No earnings per share or fourth quarter figures were available. The Argentina peso is pegged to the US dollar at the rate of one-to-one.

British Telecommunications Plc has reported second quarter net profits up 9.5% to ú483m, on turnover up 2.3% at 3,549m; net profits for the six months to September 30 were up 11.3% to ú1,060m, on turnover that rose 2.9% to ú7,048m. At the pre-tax level, profits were up 2.8% at ú732m in the second quarter, and up 7.6% to ú1,606m in the half. Earnings per share were up 10.1% to 7.6 pence in the quarter and rose 12% to 16.8 pence in the half.

Cedardata Plc saw net profits for the six months to September 30 up 49.1% at ú1.3m on turnover up 43.1% to ú5.3m. Pre-tax profits were up 49.2% at ú2.0m. Earnings per share rose 50.0% to 4.2 pence.
