Applix Inc, Westboro, Massachusetts, reported a first-quarter loss of $681,000 – as it warned it would three weeks ago (CI No 3,130) – on revenue up 3% at $11.1m, compared to net income of $1.7m, or $0.16 per share, for the same quarter last year. Floundering European business was blamed for the loss. The company also announced on Tuesday that it has appointed James Waldron as president and chief operating officer. Waldron was formerly a vice president of product and market development.
