COMPANY RESULT: APPLIED MATERIALS INC

Applied Materials Inc, Santa Clara, California-based provider of semiconductor wafer fabrication systems, has reported first- quarter net income down 76.9% at $52.9m on revenue down 43.2% at $742.5m. Earnings per share for the quarter fell 76.7% to $0.14. Results include one-time acquisition charges of $5.0m and $32.2m for the quarter and year-ago quarter, respectively. Results also include one-time gains from litigation settlements of $20m and $80m, respectively.
