ICL’s San Jose, California partner on SNA communications software, Communications Solutions Inc, has come up with something else that may well interest the Putney mainframer – a communications product that enables exchange of documents between Unix systems and IBM hosts running the SNADS SNA Distribution Services facility. Called UUCP/Connect, it provides automatic conversion of files between the Unix-to-Unix Copy Protocol and IBM’s DisOSS Distributed Office Support System with SNADS, providing transparent bothways conversion of file formats. To be offered OEM, UUCP/Connect sells for $25,000, and currently runs under Unix System V.2; a V.3 version is on the way. As well as ICL, Communications Solutions numbers Unisys Corp and Hewlett-Packard Co among the OEM customers for its products. ICL is taking Communications Solutions’ Access/SNA packs for use with its IPA network scheme (CI No 710).
