Newly discharged from bankruptcy, Redwood Shores, California-based Communication Intelligence Corp has announced Version 1.7 of its Handwriter for Windows desktop pen computing product. This version includes the company’s Handwriter Recognition System, electronic mark-up and signature capture capabilities for mainstream applications, a set-up program with tablet auto-detection for easy installation, and improved support for high-resolution video drivers. The company is shifting its selling from direct to reseller and retail in the US, but TriTech Graphics Inc will continue to distribute products worldwide. The shift is seen as an easier and cheaper way for selling products. Handwriter for Windows sold now sold 10,000 copies worldwide according to Communication Intelligence. As reported, it has long been working on a Chinese version, which it reckons has a potentially enormous market, but has no deadline on when it will be available. Version 1.7 provides electronic mark-up and is compatible with Microsoft Corp’s Word 6.0, Delrina Corp’s WinFax Pro 4.0, Lotus Development Corp cc:Mail 2.03 Remote and LAN version 2.1. Handwriter Recognition System Version 4.0.1 is designed to support natural handwriting in real-time. And the MS-DOS mouse emulation driver supports 256 colours for games in VGA and EGA video modes.
